Piero Barucci

Piero Barucci was born in Florence on 29 June 1933, and graduated with a first-class honours degree in Economics from Florence University.
He was Professor of Political Economy and the History of Economics Doctrines at Siena and Florence universities (1966-1990), and Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Commerce at Florence University in 1981-1983.
As Treasury and Civil Service Minister in the Amato government (June 1992-April 1993) and Treasury Minister in the Ciampi government (April 1993-April 1994), he was responsible for the first major privatisations. He has served as Chairman and Director of leading Italian and foreign banks, insurance companies, finance companies, government agencies, publishing houses, foundations and associations.
He joined the Competition Authority on 7 March 2007.
